Letter from the Editor

By Robin Schuckmann

Being an independent contractor in the technical communications field has its ups and downs. Not only are you the worker, but you also have to be the computer tech, client service rep., fulfillment specialist, shipping agent, office manager, receptionist, accountant, and cleaning crew. Don't miss the article about tax-related issues and what you need to know about incorporating. Despite what may seem as drawbacks, being independent sure have its advantages!

You won't want to miss the next issue of The Willamette Galley. We'll focus on Networking and Marketing issues in the technical communication field. If you have a story to tell about your experiences or what networking or marketing techniques or resources have worked for you, please share them with the membership by submitting an article to print.media@verizon.net.

There's always room for your article! Do you have an article on a different topic that you'd like to publish in the Willamette Galley newsletter? Or would you like to contribute, but aren't sure what to write about? Volunteers are always welcome! Whether you're a student just getting into technical communications, a technical communicator new to the region, or a senior member with lots of experience, there are always volunteer opportunities available. Please feel free to contact Robin Schuckmann at print.media@verizon.net.
